Payroll Tips and Frequently Asked Questions

This is a new version of our website and we are starting this section from scratch. Please feel free to submit your questions or tips for inclusion.

The Inland Revenue have informed me that I am a medium sized employer but I have less than 50 employees, what should I do?

You should appeal against this in order to categorise you as a small employer. Then you can claim the £825 tax free incentive.

How is the £825 incentive paid?

It is either deducted from a monthly tax payment to the Inland Revenue or paid to you by cheque.

I am a one man company and do not pay Tax or NIC’s – Do I still get the incentive payment?

Yes, you will still be entitled to receive a cheque each year once your returns have been filed electronically. We are quite happy to arrange this for you.

Does the requirement to lodge returns electronically apply to the Construction Industry Scheme?

No, it does not apply to CIS vouchers or returns but it does apply in respect of employees of Construction Companies.
